Checkup checklist: what happens at the doctor’s office.

Here are some issues you might discuss with your doctor or maternal and child health nurse during a visit.

  • Your baby’s growth, including measurements of height, weight, and head circumference (you should receive information indicating your baby’s growth rate compared to the average baby the same age.)
  • Your baby’s overall health and development
  • Baby signs of illness or disability
  • Preventing health problems
  • Feeding and weaning your baby
  • Elimination patterns (urination and defecation habits)
  • Encouraging healthy sleep habits
  • Immunizations
  • Periodic lab tests
  • Questions you’ve written down ahead of time.
