Delaying Cutting Umbilical Cord
A preliminary research conducting with delaying cutting umbilical cord studied in University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
The study revealed that a two-minute delay in cord clamping at birth significantly increased the child's iron status at 6 months of age, and it documented for the first time that the beneficial effects of delayed cord clamping last beyond the age of 3 months.
This also was the first study to show that the impact of delayed clamping is enhanced in infants that have low birth weights, are born to iron-deficient mothers, or do not receive baby formula or iron-fortified milk.
The data show that the two-minute delay in cord clamping increased the child's iron reserve by 27-47 mg of iron, which is equivalent to one to two months of infant iron requirements. This could help to prevent iron deficiency from developing before 6 months of age, when iron-fortified foods could be introduced.
Anemia results when there are too few red blood cells in the bloodstream, so that not enough oxygen reaches tissues and organs. Studies have found that children treated for iron-deficiency anemia as infants have lower IQ scores and motor skills at age five, and do poorer in reading, writing and math when they're older.
Anemia might mean that the babies don't thrive as well. It could have a long-term impact on development and could possibly contribute to infections in newborns
By simply delaying cord clamping for this brief time, we can provide the infant with the extra blood, and the iron it contains, from the placentat. This is an efficient, low-cost way to intervene at birth without harm to the infant or the mother.
This is a good news baby with high risk of anemia , because became anemic during the first year will putting the baby at high risk of serious developmental problems that may not be reversible, even with iron treatments.
Hopefully, soon we will have another good news about practical guidelines for incorporating the delayed clamping of the umbilical cord into standard obstetric practice in various settings.

Best painkiller for Baby: Ibuprofen
Ibuprofen, acetaminophen are the most commonly used as basic pain relief from fever and pain for baby.
A research conducting with three different groups of pain relief such as; ibuprofen, codeine and acetaminophen studied in university Ottawa School of Medicine. This study found that Ibuprofen worked better than the two other analgesics that commonly used in hospital to relief children’s pain.
The authors speculate that the anti-inflammatory properties of ibuprofen might be responsible for its superior pain relief, and note that "although ibuprofen was more efficacious in providing adequate analgesia, only 52% of children in this group could be defined as receiving 'adequate analgesia' at 60 minutes."
Ibuprofen proved has more powerful and longer lasting painkiller for kids. But this drug also has side effect, that is, toddler is not eating well and when this drugs takes regularly, it can irritate the stomach.
Another painkiller, acetaminophen will not cause stomach problem, but a large dose can cause fatal liver damage, so it is better to make sure you give your child the correct dosage based on your child weight.
Ibuprofen is the best pain relief, but like I said before, alternating acetaminophen with ibuprofen maybe best for fever in child to relief the pain for you kid.

head Injury
Last night my baby, Darin, was fall from the bed, and unfortunately her head hit the floor. I thought it wasn’t so hard because the bed only 15 cm from the floor, but when my baby began crying and vomiting, than I feel very worry that something happen with my baby, she might be had head injury or even concussion. I know that even minor head injury can lead to brain damage because of internal bleeding in the head.
Than I went to the emergency room at nearest child hospital as soon as possible (it’s only ten minutes from my home). Actually in the hospital my baby already fine, I mean at that time, she was laughing and running in the hospital, but I still worry if she had internal bleeding in her head, so I still take her to the doctor to check to real condition. Thanks God the Doctor says that my baby is OK, because if she had internal head bleeding, she wills crying and vomiting for longer period. But The doctor say, I must keep watching Darin for three days, if she has any unusual sign like nausea, vomiting, headache, always sleepy or loss of consciousness she must sent to hospital for another checkup, especially ct-scan to see if there any bleeding inside her head.
Maybe after three or four days, I’ll go to hospital to check Darin’s head using ct-scan and wishing hardly she has no trauma in her head.
To prevent Darin from getting another head injury, I covering the floor using rubber padding, so if she fall again, her head will not hit the floor to hard.

some baby signs of illness
In spite of everything parents and doctors do, babies still get sick. Here are some signs of illness and tips for what to do is your baby is ill.
Fever. Your baby’s fever can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on what the problem is. Most babies have a normal temperature of 37.20C, although this varies from child to child. Anywhere between 360C and 380C can be considered normal (Darin’s considered normal when her body temp 36.50C :p )/ the most practical tools for taking your baby’s temperature are rectal and axillary (underarm) thermometers. Rectal readings are usually about 0.50C higher than axillary readings. Call your doctor if your baby has a rectal temperature of 380C or higher.
Drowsiness. If your normally perky baby seems lethargic, sleepy, or unresponsive, she may be sick. Call the doctor if you think her drowsiness is caused by illness.
Pale of flushed skin. If your baby’s skin changes from its normal color to a pale or flushed tone, this may be a sign that she’s ill, has a fever, or is coming down with something. Call your doctor.
Lost of appetite. Babies’ appetites ebb and flow, especially as they approach the end of the first year, so a decrease does not necessarily indicate illness. However, if you notice other signs of illness in conjunction with loss of appetite, such as fever or drowsiness, call your doctor.
Behavior. If your baby’s behavior changes from what you’d consider normal, it could be a sigh of illness.
Heartbeat. If your baby’s heartbeat seems faster than normal, she may be sick. Normal heart rates for baby are 100-130 beats per minute when sleeping and 140-160 bpm when awake. Your baby’s heart rate maybe slightly higher if she’s upset. Take her pulse and temperature and check with your doctor.
Breathing. If your baby’s breathing seems fast, raspy, or especially congested, she may need to see a doctor.
Elimination. If your baby has a change in elimination pattern, check with your doctor.

potty training, it is not so smooth
I said to start potty training before.
Until right now I realized that it would not work as smooth as I thought.
First, she doesn't want to seat on her potty. I think it is ok, because maybe she just not ready to use it, or maybe I just to soon to start potty training, I’ll not push her to do that.
Pushing it will only put my baby at under pressure condition so she gets nervous and even holding her stool and became constipated, that’s not good at all..
Actually now she has improvement, she likes in squat position when she want to pup..
At least the position just alike using potty seat position, near to sit position..
Before that when she want to pass her stool, she likes to pass it while she stand :p
Now she can pass it in squat position, she just doesn't familiar with her potty, that’s why she doesn’t want to use it.
Right now when my baby want to pass it out, I placed the potty seat beside my baby, and hoping after few weeks she will familiar with her potty seat, and finally she can use it.
At least I’ll do it step by step.. First is squat position and getting her familiar with her potty seat, maybe for a week or a month, I do not know..
The important think is to be patient and always motivate my baby to start using potty seat, I’ll teach it slowly and not push it, because I believe she will use the potty seat voluntarily. I just need to wait the signals and when my baby is ready than i think it is easy to introduce her to try the potty seat. I think it is better rather than impose a schedule of my own.

Baby bottle contain toxic compound
Be carreful to heat your baby bottle at longer periode and higher temperature.
Environment California spokeswoman Rachel Gibson said that after heated 24 hours at 80 degrees centigrade, plastic baby bottle leached toxic compound called bisphenol A at levels "found to cause harm in numerous laboratory animal studies," that can lead to developmental, neural, and reproductive problems.
Bisphenol A has been linked by scientists to cancers, impaired immune function, early onset of puberty, obesity, diabetes and hyperactivity, Gibson said.
I think heating plastic bottle for 24 hours is unusual, and we not do that actually, but the bottom line is if we heated to long, than the toxic will leached out into liquids and foods.
but not all plastic baby bottle are harmfull for your baby,
if you want to buy plastic baby bottle, avoid polycarbonate plastic baby bottles and "sippy" cups. Safer alternatives for both are bottles and/or "sippy" cups made of polypropylene or polyethylene.

Circumcision and HIV
I post two articles about circumcision before, and many comment disagree about this “barbarian tradition” :)
Actually me myself also not agree with infant circumcision, because I think it’s to young to circumcised. The first month of his life is a critical situation for the baby, so I think it is bad idea to add another risk by wounding his foreskin penis.
Thank God I have she baby, so I did not need to circumcise my baby.. ha.. ha..
But for toddler or older than that, I encourage the parent to circumcise their baby boy because of the benefit of circumcised penis.
Some medical evidence suggests that circumcision leads to improved health; in the short- or long-term, though, the issue is by no means clear-cut.
Circumcision does make it easier to keep the penis clean. Uncircumcised penis will keep urine, and also bacteria grow under their penis foreskin lead to urinary tract infections
So for uncircumcised man, you must wash the area under the foreskin thoroughly more often.
Another resources of the benefit of circumcision were studied in Africa.
Robert Bailey, the lead study author said; "Our study shows that circumcised men had 53 percent fewer HIV infections than uncircumcised men,” Robert Bailey is a professor of epidemiology at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC).
How it can be? I still do not know,
There are no explanation of it, maybe next time they will show us the reason between Circumcised man and HIV infection
Anyway, for me, if I have he baby, I’ll circumcised his penis after he reach at least 5 year old. Why? Not for healthy reason, it is because my religion roles.. Man must be circumcised! No excuse!
what about you?
